West Looe Playgroup was started in 1971 when Mrs Fiddick and Mrs Payne realized the need for a playgroup in West Looe. It was first located in the Salem Chapel in West Looe Hill and has had a number of moves before arriving at its present premises in The Old School Canteen, Downs Road, West Looe.
The Playgroup is a community group, owned and run by the Parents of the children attending the group. The committee is elected at the Annual General Meeting during the Summer Term. Whilst the committee administers and is responsible for the policy of the group, it still needs the support and the involvement of the parents.
The playgroup is located on the western side of the town in a large dedicated building which has undergone considerable refurbishment over the last few years. To the front of the building is an enclosed play area and this leads to a covered outdoor play area to the rear of the building which allows the children to play outdoors at any time.
The playgroup provides for the early years foundation stage and encourages learning through play.
It has strong links with the local primary schools in order to ensure the transition is made as easily as possible for the children.
We also operate a Parent and Under 3’s Group on a Friday afternoon.
The playgroup is registered with Ofsted, the Charities Commission and is also a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance.
